INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST

Organized as part of the 3rd International Cinema Symposium, the “INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST” is meeting with the academic world and art lovers in two different themes this year.

In these days when we are preparing to proudly celebrate the 100th Anniversary of our Republic, The Organizing Committee of the 3rd International Cinema Symposium, which was organized with the theme of “THE 100 OF THE REPUBLIC AND CULTURAL HERITAGE”, determined the 2nd Theme as “CONSERVATION OF CULTURAL AND CULTURAL HERITAGE”.

The symposium, in which participants can participate in the contest with their photographs on the theme "THE 100 OF THE REPUBLIC AND CULTURAL HERITAGE IN THE YEAR," will be held between 06-10 Nov 2023 online and through on-site participation.

The deadline for participation in the International Photography Contest is 20 October 2023.

PHOTO CONTEST SPECIFICATIONS

1. Name of the Contest: Near East University 3rd International Photography Contest
2. Theme of the Contest: "Light of the Republic: The 100 of the Republic in its 100th Anniversary" and "Cultural Heritage".
3. Within the scope of the "INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST" organized within the scope of the International Cinema Symposium this year, the academic world and art lovers meet with two different themes through the photography contest organized under the roof of the Near East University.

OBJECTIVE: In these days when we are proudly preparing to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of our Republic, the theme of the contest is to refer to the virtue that the Republic brought, pluralist democracy and contemporary living conditions; It has been prepared on two themes in order not to forget the past and to protect our cultural heritage, which constitutes the richness of today, and not to forget. In this context, culture and cultural accumulation are the most important indicators of cities and countries. The values and artifacts that the people living here have added to the areas they have lived in throughout the historical process have shaped the way those cities have been structured. Transferring cultural heritage to future generations is one of the most important tasks of humanity. The aim of this contest is to develop all kinds of consciousness in order to protect cultural values and to transfer them from generation to generation.

Writing rules

Times New Roman font should be used for article and book reviews to be sent to the journal.

The main title font size must be 16 pt Turkish, 14 pt English and bold; “Abstract” and “Abstract” headings must be 12 points and bold; concise and abstract should be 12 points. The main text should be in 10 pt and justified.

Basic headings all must be in caps and bold; Sub-headings must be given with their first letters capitalized and subsequent sub-headings must be written with only the first letter capitalized and italicized. Subheadings can be used as desired. All titles font size must be 12 point.

The study must include introduction, main text and conclusion sections. 3-6 keywords/keywords related to the study should be given.

As for alignment of the text, 3 spaces from left and top; 2.5 spaces must be left on the right and bottom.

The International Journal of Art, Culture and Communication adopts both footnote and non-footnote reference methods.

References without footnotes: Authors who wish to cite references in paragraphs must use the APA format, which is widely used in social sciences. For detailed information about this method, you can refer to http://www.apastyle.org.

References with footnotes: It is essential to comply with the generally accepted conditions in academic circles in the references with footnotes.

The deadline for participation in the International Photography Contest is 8 April 2023.

• Contest Categories:

Competition; It is organized in two categories as “Digital (Digital) photography” and “Drone”.

• Contest Terms:

. Participation in the contest is free.

. It is also possible to participate in the contest with photographs produced by camera and/or smart communication tools. Images with visual reality content produced by software programs cannot participate.

. Each participant can participate in the contest with a maximum of 4 photos for each category. In case of sending extra photos in any category, the participant is deemed to have violated the rules and will be excluded from the contest in that category.

.Contest; It is open to the participation of all amateur and professional photographers residing abroad and in our country, apart from the staff of the Regulatory Authority, the members of the organizing committee and the selection committee.

.Photographs that have been awarded in any other contest held before or at the same time with this contest, or that were created by cutting a shutter/frame difference and/or part of these photographs, or produced by color changes, or modified by any means cannot participate in the contest. Otherwise, such an application is considered a violation of the rules. On the other hand, the fact that the photo sent to the contest is exhibited or published anywhere "other than the contest organization" does not constitute an obstacle in terms of participation into the contest.

.Provided that they do not change the documentary (original) structure of the photograph, some “simple” operations such as color, sharpness, dust removal, contrast adjustments, etc. photographic interventions are accepted. However, adding and removing images from the photo is unacceptable.

.Photographs created by the assembly of more than one photo (collage), photos with HDR (High Dynamic Range) applied are not accepted for the competition.

. All permissions and responsibilities regarding the use of manned or unmanned aerial vehicles (Drone) within the scope of the drone category belong to the participant.

. The photos including and submitted to the contest are accepted provided that the people appearing in the photographs provide written permission stating that the photos they appear in can be published in visual, internet and printed media.

. All kinds of interventions and changes on the photo sent to the contest, pretending as if the work is his/her own despite that it does not belong to the participant, and attempting to misleading the evaluation board, are considered a violation of the rules.

. Any violation of rules means disqualification of photos “without detailed explanation”. The prize received by the participant who is found to violate the rules will be cancelled. Evaluation committee has the authority to "not to give any award", "replace the award with another award" and/or "not to give any award" instead of the canceled award. In such a case, the evaluation committee is unilaterally authorized to make changes in the ranking of other competitors. Thus, other "awarded" and/or "disqualified" participants are not entitled to make a claim on the decisions of the evaluation committee. If the award is given before the violation of the rules is detected, the participant must return the award to the regulatory institution within 7 (seven) business days from the date of detection of the violation. The cost of shipping and/or posting in this regard is paid by the violating competitor.

.The EXIF information (such as DPI, pixel information) of the photos uploaded to the Near East University 3rd International Photography Contest system must be intact. Otherwise, the organizer and the NEU Cinema Symposium Organizing Committee are not responsible for the problems that may be encountered in the process.

.The organizing committee will ask the participant for the original files of the photographs that were awarded, deemed worthy of display, and purchased.

. After photography contest the participant must send the originals of the photographs by e-mail to be used in the studies, virtual or real exhibition, book, etc.

.The Organizing Committee may decide to cancel or postpone the whole or part of the contest under conditions it deems necessary. The Organizing Committee has the right to determine the methods and rules to be applied in cases of cancellation or postponement.

.The Organizing Committee is authorized to make all kinds of changes, including the rules of the specification, program changes, evaluation, and awarding, when deemed necessary. In the solution of problems and uncertainties, provided that the participants are to be informed in writing one week at the latest before the deadline for participation.

• Copyright (Usage) Right:

.The right of publication, use and exhibition of the photographs that received awards (degree, special award, honorable mention and exhibition) in the contest will belong to the organizer together with the owners of the work. The right to use the work cannot be sold/transferred to a third person or institution by the organizer. These works will be kept in the archive of the regulatory institution.

.Participant; The participant accepts in advance that he/she gives the right of use the photographs that are awarded, including the right to exhibit the photos on the internet, visual and written media channels for the announcement of the results of the contest, from the date of the conclusion of the contest, in the promotion of the regulatory institution and its affiliated organizations without limitation of place and content, provided that the name and title of the work and the photographer are used in their publications. The participant declares, undertakes and accepts that he/she has given permission/consent to the regulatory body for the use of reproduction, processing, representation, public transmission rights and publishing rights of its award-winning work(s) and which are entitled to be exhibited in accordance with this and in accordance with other relevant legislation. Thus, the owner of the work irrevocably accepts that he/she will not withdraw the permission he has granted for his/her works later, that he/she will not prevent the use of the work in the above way, or that he/she will not have any rights and receivables from the regulatory institutions and sponsors for this permission/consent, and that he/she will not make any material or moral claims.

.The participant accepts, declares and undertakes that the photographs he/she sends/uploads for the contest belong entirely to him/her, that they were taken by him/her and that he/she is the sole owner of all permissions and rights regarding the work. All legal responsibility for copyright violations that may arise in case of using the images belonging to someone else in full or partially belongs to the participant.

.It is considered that people who can appear in the photos submitted to the competition allow their photo to be taken and sent to a contest, and that the photo can be published on the internet and in print media. All responsibility for disputes that may arise due to such uses belongs to the competitor.

.Award-winning, exhibit-worthy and purchased photographs will be published on the websites of the organizing institution https://usc2023.neu.edu.tr/.

• Other Considerations:

.The awards specified in the terms of the contest will be transferred to the personal bank account/IBAN numbers of the beneficiaries to be notified in writing by the regulatory institution. In case the beneficiary does not send the personal bank account/IBAN details and the documents and information requested by the organizing committee, the award granting time expires at the end of 1 (one) year from the date of the result notification. In case of statute or violation of limitations, the right holder cannot claim any award, royalty, etc.

.Competition awards, place and time will be announced in the contest calendar.

.The works that are ranked, exhibited and deemed worthy of purchase will be published in an “Album Book” and/or “Digital Catalogue” by the Near East University Communication Studies Research Center.

.Participants; By uploading their photos to https://usc2023.neu.edu.tr/, they are deemed to have read and accepted the conditions of the contest. This specification comes into effect when the contestant submits his/her photos to the contest. Contestants do not have the right to object to the provisions of the contest.

Naming and Submitting Works:

.Photos will be sent online (online) by following the membership and photo submission instructions at https://usc2023.neu.edu.tr/.

.The sizing and naming processes of the photos to be uploaded should be done in advance and the files should be kept ready and uploaded in a single session.

.Photos to be uploaded must be without any information, mats and margins, name, signature, logo, date, etc. related to the identity of the participant.

.The photos that will participate in the contest should be saved in JPG/JPEG format, 150-300 DPI resolution, 8-12 compression quality, and the size of the files should not be less than 2 Mb and should not exceed 5 Mb.

.In case of errors caused by the system or the user while uploading or participating in the contest, the problem will be resolved in a short time and the participant will be informed by contacting icw.neu@neu.edu.tr.

.Near East University is not responsible for possible problems that may arise from uploading the works.

For the 3rd International Cinema Symposium, International Photography Contest, at least 3 (three) members of the selection committee convene and an evaluation report is prepared after the contest. If the three selection committee members cannot come together on the meeting date, the meeting and the result announcement are postponed for one week.

Jury evaluation will take place in two rounds. In the first round, the photographs deemed appropriate in line with the competition specifications will be determined by the preliminary jury. The preliminary jury meets online with the participation of at least five members. Photographs that pass the preliminary jury stage gain the right to take part in the contest category. At this stage, the organizing committee can make an online evaluation "in order to use the process efficiently" if there is an excess number of participant photos. The final round, which is the last stage of the contest, is planned to be held face to face. The organizing committee has the authority to make changes on the day, time and method of face-to-face evaluation in line with current ordinary and/or extraordinary conditions.
